When you’re shipping items, you want to make sure that the materials you use for packaging will keep them safe.

As a general rule, safety is probably at the top of the list for the best export packaging materials. But there are other properties to consider as well, such as cost, weight, and sustainability.

Why sustainability matters

In a world where companies, large and small, ship objects internationally, Tuplin understands the importance of meeting every need of these companies.

This includes the need to be as environmentally friendly as possible when packaging and shipping goods. Sustainability in exporting is more vital now than ever before, but why? Does it really matter for your business?

The simplest reason is the ethical and moral argument, which is the idea that humans have a responsibility to protect and preserve the environment.

As well as being just a good thing to do, there’s a practical side to this as well. Basically, we have to live here. Our children have to live here. It’s like if your house is on fire, you act to put that fire out to protect your home.

But there are other, more economic reasons why sustainability is an important goal for businesses.

Governments, both local and international, have put guidelines in place for companies to strive towards. Some of these are legal requirements, and if your business engages in certain unsustainable practices, it could be liable.

Some are simply goals, but they’re often rewarded by grants or tax breaks. This applies to all aspects of your business, including export packaging.

There’s also the fact that, by engaging in sustainable business practices, you can benefit from better public opinion. If your brand includes a message of sustainability, you need to reflect those values in practice, and this includes using sustainable materials when exporting.

This is where Tuplin can help.

Our environmental policy

The team at Tuplin takes sustainability seriously. The Tuplin Group Quality and Environmental Policy underpins our ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) accreditations. These internationally recognised standards ensure that our processes are continually monitored, improved, and aligned with best practice – giving you confidence that sustainability and quality are embedded into how we operate as a business.

That’s why we came up with the Tuplin Group Quality and Environmental Policy, so you can be sure that we are doing everything we can to help our customers improve their environmental performance.

Our practices include:

  • Sustainably sourced timber, with a focus on FSC-certified products.
  • Minimal wood waste during production.
  • Designing products for durability and reusability.
  • Consideration of more environmentally responsible packaging materials, including recycled foams and higher recycled-content products
  • Ongoing research into new sustainable materials entering the market
  • Efficient energy usage where possible across our operations.
  • Controlled emissions.
  • Recycling and responsible waste management.

Tuplin is audited by the UK Wood Packaging Material Marking Programme, which means that the Forestry Commission has approved us to provide ISPM15 timber. We’re willing to work with you to find the best solution for more sustainable export packing.

Tuplin material options

At Tuplin, we have a wide range of materials and can offer anything from simple pallets to custom crates, complete with inserts to keep your goods as secure and safe as possible. As mentioned above, we source all of our timber sustainably, making sure that we support and protect the forests our wood comes from.

Our timber is also ISPM15 HT 56/30 certified, which means that it complies with international standards. An ISPM15 certification is necessary for many timber products because raw timber can contain insects, fungi, and diseases. When the timber is being shipped internationally, this could pose a huge risk to different ecosystems, and the presence of these pests or diseases can also weaken the wood in transit.

But because Tuplin has ensured that we only source ISPM15 certified timber for our products, you don’t need to worry about your goods being held up in transit.

The most common materials we work with include:

  • HT ISPM15 HT 56/30 certified timber
  • Plywood
  • OSB
  • Chipboard
  • MDF
  • Tri-wall

Any timber waste can often be reused to make other materials, such as chipboard. This keeps costs down and, just as importantly, is the most sustainable way to work.

Tuplin export packing services

As well as supplying crates and even designing bespoke crates, boxes, and other packaging, Tuplin offers export packing services. Our team can pack your items for you and handle shipping, all while following your shipping requirements and making sure that your goods are in safe hands.

This includes on-site packing at your depot, so we come to you for maximum safety and convenience. We can pack, load, and unload products of any size, and we make sure to carry out risk assessments whenever necessary.

As well as using sustainable materials when manufacturing crates, we also use sustainable materials when packing, including  materials that are treated and certified to make sure they’re suitable for international travel.

We understand that every customer is different, and different types of goods can have very different needs. So, after an initial assessment, we will create a custom case that is as suitable as possible for your goods.

If you do have specific packing specifications, we can follow them to the letter. Our team can even attend training sessions if it’s necessary to work at your site.

Finally, we make sure that our cases are as reusable as possible. They can be designed so that you can open them up and keep on using them. This saves your money, and it also reduces waste, making it one of the most eco-friendly options.

The complete package

Our customers often value sustainability, and we value the priorities of our customers. The Tuplin Group offers sustainable, safe materials when producing packing cases, which means they can be recycled or reused to save money and reduce waste wherever possible. We can even package your goods for you and ensure that they are shipped with as little fuss as possible.

Get in touch if you have any specific questions or if you want to know how we can help with any export packing.
